Edward Elric is a genius, billionaire, alchemist and the former head of Elric Industries. Using his own great wealth and exceptional alchemical knowledge, Edward enjoyed the playboy lifestyle for many years until he was kidnapped by the Ten Rings. With his life on the line, Edward created an armored suit which he used to escape his captors, returning home and becoming the armored superhero known as The Fullmetal Alchemist, battling against terrorists as well as his own former ally King Bradley. Edward enjoyed the fame that came with his new secret identity and decided to share it with the world, publicly announcing himself as The Fullmetal Alchemist.
Fresh off from defeating enemies all over the world, Edward found himself dying due to his own auto-mail poisoning his body, all while he was challenged by the vengeful terrorist, Scar who attempted to destroy his legacy. Due to their assistance in both these battles, Edward reluctantly agreed to serve as a consultant to Director Ciel Phantomhive peacekeeping intelligence agency M.O.N. where he used his position to upgrade their technology while he began a relationship with Winry Rockbell. With the world yet again being threatened, Edward joined the Jump Force and helped defeat the Hollows and Vegeta. Due to the battle, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, leading him to create the Fullmetal Legion to safeguard the world and help him retire.
Threats of the Ice Alchemist forced Edward to come out of retirement to protect the world, inadvertently putting his loved ones at risk and leaving him defenseless when his home was destroyed. Edward continued his mission, finding Kimblee was behind the attacks and that Isaac McDougal was a pretend mastermind. Eventually, Edward defeated Kimblee, almost losing Winry Rockbell in the process. In the wake of the battle, Edward destroyed all of his armors. However, when the Jump Force were officially demobilized due to the War on the CCG, Edward developed more alchemy and resumed his role as the Fullmetal Alchemist, aiding them in the capture of Investigator Arima and acquiring Vegeta's Dragon Ball.
Once the threat of the CCG had been ended at last, Edward, influenced by Rias Gremory's mindgames, created Father with the help of Naruto Uzumaki as a new peace-keeping Homonculous to protect the world and allow the Jump Force to retire. However, Father believed that humanity threatened the world and thus, according to his program, decided to extinguish humanity. Through the work of the Jump Force, Father was defeated, however not without massive civilian cost and many lives being lost. After the Father Offensive, Edward retired from active duty, still haunted by his role in the chaos the Homonculous created. The guilt of creating Father and causing so much destruction and loss of life eventually convinced Edward to support the Hellawes Accords. However, Edward's own strong support of the Accords lead to a disagreement with his ally Shepard Sorey, who opposed the act and what it meant for the team.
When Sorey then proceeded to further break the law to protect the Winter Seraph, Edward was forced to lead the manhunt for his old ally, igniting the Jump Force Civil War. Eventually, Edward learned that General Esdeath had manipulated them into conflict and rejoined his friend, only to have Esdeath reveal that the Winter Seraph was responsible for the murder of his parents, causing Edward to seek revenge and fight both Sorey and Mikleo. Sorey, aided by an interference of Mikleo and Edward's subsequent distraction and mindless grief, managed to disable Edward's auto-mail and put an end to the fight. With Sorey and Mikleo on the run, Edward returned to Amestria to become a mentor to Kirito and to guide him in order to make him a better hero than he ever was.
Edward proposed to Winry Rockbell, and was recruited by Touya Mochizuki and Naruto Uzumaki to defend Earth from Omega Shenron and the Shadow Dragons. Touya was captured, prompting Edward and Kirito to rescue him from captivity and travel to a barren planet to battle Omega Shenron with the help of the Soul Guardians. Edward later battled one-on-one with Omega Shenron and made him bleed but was subsequently beaten to submission. He was ready to die in order to save the universe, but Touya Mochizuki interfered. Touya surrendered the Dragon Ball to Omega Shenron in exchange for Edward's life. Edward remained on the barren planet with Byakuya as they watched their allies disintegrate into ashes.
Abilities and Powers[]
Combat Alchemy: As a result of having created a Philosopher Stone, Edward became one of the few alchemists who do not require a drawn Transmutation Circle to perform alchemical transmutations. By merely touching his palms together, he creates an energy circulation with his arms and transmutes by using his own will as a substitute for the necessary runes. This remarkable talent makes his transmutations both instantaneous and incredibly versatile, allowing him to use alchemy to its fullest potential in direct combat.
With this quick style, Edward becomes a master of his surroundings and uses the substances therein to supplement his physical prowess in battle - creating giant earthen hands to lift objects, columns of stone to gain himself the higher ground and ogre-faced battering rams with which to strike opponents. Ed also specializes in transmuting weapons with which to do battle and often crafts menacing-looking swords and ostentatious lances when necessary, but his primary weapon is his auto-mail right arm, whose forearm plating he transmutes into various blades.
